Situated directly below the center of the town, this huge labyrinth of tunnels has a total length of about 20 km and is thus longer than the network of streets above. The cellars, which go down to a depth of 20 m, were dug into sandy sediment and built on three levels or floors.

The “Retzer Erlebniskeller” (Adventure Cellar of Retz) can only be visited by joining a guided tour. Please dress appropriately: Temperatures are constantly between 10° and 12° Celsius all year round. A guided tour takes approx. 1,5 hours and includes a brief explanation of the sights on the main square as well as wine tasting in the vinotheque of Hotel Althof.
